The Environment
Tips on being better for the environment too.

Most of us have learnt the value of looking after our environment and minimising the 'footprint' we leave behind ourselves. At Nappy Queen, we certainly take it seriously. So one of the things we took a long, hard look at was doing our best to create a nappy that both did its job and created as small an impact as possible.
That's why we've used renewable fibres in our nappies. What's more, they come from replanted pine plantations and would have simply gone to waste if not used to create these fibres.

There's also no chlorine in our bleaching of these fibres. The method used is the more eco-friendly oxygen-based hydrogen peroxide. Bleaching fibres has the added benefit of creating a stronger and much more absorbent nappy.
Cutting down on waste is one of the catch-cries of the era. As an eco-responsible company, we also spent time on searching for a filling that would be super-absorbent, but not at all bulky.

Quite apart from the benefit of taking up less space in your baby bag, it also takes up less space in landfill. A NSW EPA State of Environment Report done in '97 showed clearly that nappies only take up about 1% of landfill (as opposed to approximately 55% going to food and garden waste).

That being said, we are still constantly looking for ways to improve. As a result, we have a number of initiatives in the pipeline.

  • To replace the backsheet with a biodegradable fabric.
  • To replace the topsheet with cotton fibre.
  • To an alliance with an 'eco-friendly' bin company. Watch this space for news!

Another thing you can be sure of, the end product you get will still be AA Quality!
